I love to read. I get lost in stories. Stay up too late, pay the price the next day. Just one more chapter almost always turns into about seven more chapters. I also end up reading several books at a time. I stack them in a pile and sit down to read and just pick one up. Right now, I'm in the middle of three books, and I bought one today at the bookstore, so by the end of the day, I'll be into four books.
In my class, I'm reading Ella Enchanted. It's my second favorite kids book of all time. You say you've seen the movie. Well, it's nothing like the book, and I love that because my kids think they know what's going to happen next, and they're wrong, and something better happens.
Turns out, my first favorite kids book of all time, A Wrinkle in Time, is actually my all-time favorite book. It's hard to put into words why I love this book so much. (Interesting tidbit: Sawyer is reading the book in an episode of Lost- aren't you glad you know that?)
I'm also reading Plan B by Anne Lammott. She wrote Traveling Mercies, and that was an excellent book, so I went and picked up her second one. Not as good as the first, because most of it is spent worrying about/bashing the Bush administration, but it's still pretty good.
I went out today and bought Sex God by Rob Bell. His first book, Velvet Elvis was pretty good. I'm not on board with everything he says in it, but it's a good read and it made me think about a few things, which is pretty much what I look for in a book. I've heard some of the ideas he presents in this book, and I'm interested in reading it.
Finally, I'm reading Jane Eyre. I'm only five chapters into it, but I really like it already. It's a classic. I love to read classics. When I graduated college, I went back and read all of the books I was supposed to read in high school, and either didn't read or just hated. I've loved every one, except Fahrenheit 451, which I don't understand even ten years later. I also like to name things after book characters. My dog Daisy is named after a character in The Great Gatsby, and if she was a boy, she would have been named Radley, from To Kill A Mockingbird. I was on an Austen kick for a while, but now I've moved on to the Bronte sisters. I'll probably reread Wuthering Heights after this.
It's a gorgeous day outside, and I'm going to head out there with the dogs and read something. Not sure which one yet. But it will be good.
