Time

"Time is too slow for those who wait,
too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve,
too short for those who rejoice,
but for those who love,
time is eternity."
- Henry Van Dyke
(This has been my favorite poem since my freshman year of college, almost 15 years ago)

Time. That is my theme for 2009.

I am trying to focus on one little word for the year. At first, I couldn't figure one out, so I decided to do a word for each month. I figured I could do that much. And, of course, as I began thinking and planning that out, the word of the year came to me. Time. As soon as I think I have planned everything out, I get the word of inspiration for the whole year.

I don't do resolutions, but I do sort of think about something I want to be more aware of. In 2008, I decided to say yes more. And I did. Saw a couple of movies I didn't want to see. Went to a concert I wasn't really planning on attending, but had fun nonetheless. Went to a museum exhibit I wasn't all that interested in, but spent more time with friends and said yes when it was easier to say no.

This year, I decided even before thinking of a word theme, that I wanted to spend more time working on my photography, more time outdoors, and more time with people in general. Which is why I'm so unsure as to why it took me so long to come up with my word "time." As in, even last night, when asked what my word for the year would be, I said 'create'. But I guess I just had to wait for the year to actually start before realizing/ committing to 'time.'

What am I going to do with this word? Well, use it as my creative driving force, and examine every aspect of it. That's what. I'm also going to incorporate it into my Project 365, which I'm documenting on my new website.

Oh, and in my first act of "time," I went shopping with my mom today, instead of watching college football or TNT's "Bones" marathon. I made it almost four hours before I wanted to hit her over the head with my shopping bag (but I didn't). I only had one other incident in which I wanted to hit her over the head with my shopping bag and/or purse. So we're gonna call this one a success.
