Typically, I get up at 6 and when I wake up, it's dark outside, and everything is very quiet. I turn on the news, which provides me with quick little news stories, weather, and traffic. I leave the house at 6:40-6:45, especially if I'm headed to Starbucks or to the grocery store.
I hit those places around 6:45-7 and I love it. At Starbucks, there's only one or two other people in line, and one or two people on the couches chatting. It's very quiet, and I can park anywhere because there's only one or two cars in the drive-thru line. I even get to chat a little with the baristas.
At the grocery store, there is one lane open, and the cashier is June and she is very nice and we chat all the time. If I go to the Starbucks inside the grocery store (because we need two Starbucks within 100 yards of one another), I get to chat with Kris the barista there. He's an exceptionally pleasant guy, always chatting with me, greeting everyone that comes through the door, and visiting with the three or four old men that come to the Starbucks sitting area there.
This morning, however, it's a workday and I didn't have to come in until 8:15-8:30. I got to sleep an hour later, waking up at 7:00. And 7:05. And 7:10. After throwing myself into presentable form (though non-made-up with wet hair), I was hitting the Starbucks and the grocery store at 8am. I am amazed at the difference between the two. When I pulled up to the Starbucks, there was not a parking space to be found, and the people that were parked couldn't get out because the drive-thru line was wrapped around the building.
I decided to go to the other Starbucks inside the grocery (okay, maybe we do need two Starbucks within 100 yards of one another), and also to grab some breakfast to heat up. Even inside the grocery store was different. Parking there was also an issue, as my favorite spot- that's always open because I'm the only one who goes to the grocery store at 6:45am -was occupied.
However, when I got in to the grocery store, all of the self-check lanes were open, and the Starbucks had a line two people deep! I guess everyone and their mothers go out at 8am.
And now. Now it is 4:16, and I have been in my classroom all day minus lunch. Even though I brought 5 different movies from which to choose for a little afternoon entertainment whilst I whittle away at the yearbook project, I watched none. I listened to no music save the song bouncing around my head (Young MC's "Bust A Move" if you must know). I have spend the day in virtual silence, quietly grading papers and working on my computer.
My grading: done.
35 pages of yearbook: done.
A three-day weekend of craft-y projects that have long-since been neglected:
Bring.It.On.
I am a happy girl.
Oh, I do hope i was the Will Schuster version...We were listening to that this afternoon and I thought of you and your overwhelming generosity. And smuggling a birthday cake. With candles lit. Yuh-huh. It was a good day.
