So I’ve been gone a while. Not really gone, just not sitting in front of a computer. Okay, I’ve been sitting in front of a computer, just not a functional one. I will be so much happier when the powers that be fix my wireless card, or authorize me to chuck my ghetto-hatchback laptop off of the nearest tall building.
I had very good intentions of doing a lot of things while I was on “vacation.” Though it should be said, when I went to Chicago, that was a vacation. Just not having to go into work for two weeks, that's not a "vacation".
Yesterday was my dad's birthday. He would've been 60, I think. It was also one of my princesses birthday, and my friend Melissa's. In honor of all of that, I got a speeding ticket. Not really in honor of it, but I got one nonetheless. I got it on a road that I travel twice daily, and speed down both times, so it could have been worse, and I just figure that the Po-Po were bound to get me eventually. The funny thing was just how boring the whole thing was. I get stopped by the police all the time, usually for something much more interesting than speeding, so it was kinda boring.
The other funny thing going on in my life is the guy at church. Even before he got there on Christmas Eve, my mother looked at me and said "If the boy shows up, I'm going to introduce you to him" very matter-of-factly. Sure enough, he does show up. Here's where irony shows up: after the service, he walks up to my stepdad and shakes hands with him. In all the time that my mother has been stalking-I mean noticing-him, my stepdad has known him. He works with my dad. And taught a class that my dad took. So, for the last year, my stepdad's known the guy my mom has been too shy to go up and talk to on my behalf. What's worse, my dad may be trying to fix us up. This does not look good.
Otherwise, we had a good Christmas in the guest room. My princes and princesses spoiled me rotten for Christmas, and I missed them the moment they left the school. I want a few more days to get my classroom cleaned, but I just want to see them. I miss them. The family took good care of me as well. I got some great new sheets, and Santa brought me a small refrigerator for my classroom. I'm hooked up. In the rest of the house, the girls liked the gifts I got them, and Kells Bells got an awesome guitar. She used her giftcard to buy guitar picks to play with. This girl's gonna be a rock star. But she needs lessons first. If anyone knows a good guitar teacher in the Flower Mound area, please let me know.
New Year's Eve has me teaching the college Bible Study class, so I must go prepare that lesson, and I gotta say I'm a little nervous. It's been a couple of years since I've taught the over 8 crowd, and I'm not sure how it's gonna go...
Happy New Year to all.
yeah, I still like your blog! --from a random sister in Christ! random in the sense meaning, i have no idea who you are and vice versa, but want to just let you know i like the blog! go girl!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennie...where are you and how did you come to find my blog? Just curious. I'd also love to read your blog if you have one!
ReplyDeletehmm. for the life of me, I'm NOT sure how I found your blog. I do read the the mckinney diner-- brent mckinney, a youth pastor at crossroads and many links off of his. Yours stuck with me on some of your previous blogs about being single etc. etc... a teacher, I teach middle school in flower mound. I was single until 29 and it was troubling, but now 6 years later, I don't know what the big hubbub was all about. But the themes are the same in that I have wanted kids and now can't seem to have them. TMI?! so.... I do NOT have a blog, i romanticize the idea, but the reality is, every time i write something, and go back and read it i want to throw up. so, i accept my lot as a spectator and enjoy! i'm ok with that! Enjoy your blog, hope you can keep it up and happy new year! Jennie
