Blame the Lutherans. They brought us here.

If you have not seen Gran Torino, go do so right now. Go on. I’ll wait. I have other things to do.

My dad averages one movie a year. Averages. Some years, he even sees two. Every Christmas day, we go to the movies later in the afternoon/evening. This year, we were going to see Australia but at the last minute decided to go see Gran Torino instead. It was an excellent choice on our part. This is a really good movie that is both funny and very thought-provoking. Even to the last minute I thought I knew what would happen but didn't get it all put together. I highly recommend going to see this movie!

One thing I do not recommend is doing the district’s Valuing Diversity training (that you were supposed to do in August) anytime after viewing the movie Gran Torino. You will not be able to take said training seriously after that brilliant movie.

On a side note, it’s also pretty funny to have to review the slides entitled “Characteristics of the Multicultural School” when you teach at a school that is predominantly white, as in less than 10% minority, and those 10% so don’t fit into any minority stereotypes.

And the sexual harassment training! Be a fan of "The Office" and see if you can make it through the whole training without once thinking “That’s what she said.” I dare you.
