What the hell kind of devil bird chirps at night?

Another  Failure to Launch quote…

So, today I had a math inservice at my local school. I was loving it because even though I had to get up earlier than usual, it was exactly two minutes away from where I live. I got up, ran through Starbucks, and headed on my way.

When I got there, I noticed a gathering in the parking lot. I gathered my belongings, and joined the group. One of the leaders said that the school wasn’t unlocked, so we may be having the inservice in the parking lot. At which point I piped up and said "Actually, I live two blocks from here, and we’ll have it in my living room before we’ll have it in the parking lot in June in Texas.”

They got the school opened, and as we’re walking in, we walk past this huge birdcage with a bird in it that is chirping uncontrollably as we walk past.

Oh no. That will not do. At all. I’m about to have to sit in what boils down to a meeting (which I’m so  good at) from 8-4, and I cannot do that with a bird going nuts in the background.

We went to the library, and all got seated, and there was the sound of the devil bird again. It was at this point that I decided action must be taken. I wasn’t sure if I was going to have to cut off my own skirt to cover up the cage to make the bird think it’s nighttime, but this was going to stop. So, I walked towards the bird and a woman came out of the office.

“Excuse me ma’am. I’m goin’ need you to do something about that bird.” is exactly what I said to her. She went on to tell me the whole story behind the bird. Apparently, there were two, and as the principal tried to take the birds home, one got out and flew away, and this other bird has been calling out to find its mate.

Is that not sad? I said a big “Oh My Gawsh! I’m so sorry!” to the lady, and as I walked by the bird, I whispered into its cage: “I’m so sorry to hear about your boyfriend, but really, I’ve got to concentrate!”

And away went the bird. And on I went to my inservice. Any time you get this many teachers from different campuses in a room together, you’re gonna get some real fruitcakes, but for most of then, you just had to be there, so I’ll spare you the details…
