It wouldn't be Christmas if we didn't embarrass ourselves.

First, my dad has been the funniest person this Christmas, and I never thought that this day would come without a significant winter event south of the border. Of course, I'm here in DFW instead of Lubbock because of a significant winter event, so who knows...

Second, let me say that I am a ROCK STAR at Wheel of Fortune. I should really investigate appearing on the show as a money-making endeavor.

Thirdly, I read this and the headline said "How Fortunate We Were To Have George Michael" and I thought two things. 1. George Michael died? and 2. Were we really that fortunate? I mean, yeah, he woke me up before he went went, but otherwise?

Fourthly, (is too a word)... it wouldn't be Christmas if we didn't embarrass ourselves in a most awkward and uncomfortable way.

On the way to my parent's house at the beginning of the day, I saw huge billows of black smoke, knowing that something up ahead was on fire. I was relieved as the road twisted and turned that it was not our house, but as we drove by later on the attempt to make it to the airport, we saw it was a house and it was ruined.

When we got home, The Dad got an email and found out that a colleague of his had a house fire this morning. We felt awful. As we drove by to get movie tickets, we stopped at the house so he could offer his condolences and see if there's anything they need that we could help with. There were people cleaning up the mess and cleaning out the house. We walked up to one of them and had the following conversation:

Him: "Is M around?"
Lady: "Who?"
Him: "M?"
Lady: "Um, no...."
Him: "The homeowner?"
Lady: "Mr. J and Mrs. B.J?"
Him: "Uh.No. M. T and his wife."

We were at the wrong house. The wrong house in which someone's life had been burnt down on Christmas morning. If there was a hole I would have liked to have crawled into it.

At this point, I jumped in.
Me: "I'm so sorry. We received an email that one of his colleague's house burnt down. We assumed this was the house."
Lady: "No. The firefighters left here to go answer another call. Must've been that one."
Me: "I'm so sorry. (Can't say that enough at this point.) Did everyone make it out unharmed?"
Lady: "Yes, thankfully."
Me: "I'm so sorry about the damage. Glad to hear everyone was okay. We'll get out of your way now."

Yeah. Embarrassing and sad that more than one house burnt down this morning.
