Get down, girl...go 'head get down.

First of all, yes.
The white girl driving around town yesterday in the suv with the windows down while rocking out to Kanye (complete with pseudo-rap-star moves) was, in fact, me. I know you're surprised.

As I was pulling out of my apartment, changing the channels on the radio station, I stumbled upon a song from my youth. I left it there and broke out into a bit of a rap. Found another song a bit later, though not rap, and stopped surfing immediately.

Which led me to think about the songs that I stop channel surfing for, no matter what. And since my new planner is a series of lists, I thought I'd put together a little list of songs that make me stop my channel surfing and either take a nostalgic trip down memory lane or shake that which my mother gave me. (With artists in parenthesis, in case you want to shake that which your mother gave you.)

1. Brass Monkey (Beastie Boys)- the song that inspired this list
2. Stuck in the Middle With You (Stealer's Wheel)
3. Bust a Move (Young MC) I've heard this song on three different media ventures from Christmas Day to New Year's Day...weird.
4. Solisburry Hill (Peter Gabriel)
5. Scar Tissue (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
6. Mr. Brightside (The Killers)
7. Don't Stop Believin' (Journey)- duh.
8. Reelin' in the Years (Steely Dan)
9. Toxic (Britney Spears) - guilty pleasure
10. Rocket Man (Elton John)

There are also a few artist that I will stop and listen to regardless of the song, mostly because they just make good music:
- Eric Clapton
- Tom Petty
- Steve Miller Band
- Better Than Ezra
- Taylor Swift (It's the 14 year old girl in me)

What about you?
What do you stop the radio surfing for?
Or am I the only person that still listens to radio anymore?
