Let's discuss books, shall we?
I'm in the middle of reading about 37.4 zillion books right now. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but I have always loved being in the middle of two or three or six books at a time. I pick up the different books depending on my mood. I typically mix and match between non-fiction and fiction, but occasionally do find myself engrossed in one book in particular that I can't put down.
I'm not there right now. I'm in the middle of three books, with half a dozen or so in my que. (Sounds so very fancy, doesn't it?) So, since you're all waiting with bated breath to hear about the minute little details of my life, here's my little book list.
Book: Captivating
Bookmark: an old Target shopping listWhen I'm reading it: right before bed, after Ruth study
Notes: Second-time reading it. First time- loved it. This time- eh.
Book: East of Eden
Bookmark: receipt and three old photographs
When I'm reading it: Here and there and everywhere. Or, when I'm not playing on my iTouch
Notes: only on chapter four and this book is kicking my arse. I've printed out the Sparks notes summaries so I can read a chapter and then use them to help me make sense of what I've just read. I've heard so many people talk about what a great book it is. Just haven't gotten there yet. Oh, and it's about 600 thousand pages long.
Book: Catching Fire
Bookmark: none yet.
When I'm reading it: When I get finished with East of Eden. If I get finished with it.
Notes: It's the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy. Katybug is reading it or has read it or something. I wasn't going to read the rest of the trilogy, but one of my YL girls said I should, and I had a giftcard to BN, so I went for it. The third book in the trilogy comes out at the end of August, so I'm in no rush to get to it.
Book: Walking on Water
Bookmark: receipt
When I'm reading it: off and on, here and there.
Notes: It's a non-fiction chapter book, so it's easy to pick up and put down. It's about art and how it relates to the Christian faith. I bet once I get into it I won't want to put it down.
Book: Northanger Abbey
Bookmark: receipt (got to get more creative with the bookmarks)
When I'm reading it: I took it with me to Colorado, and then put it down when I came home.
Notes: It's just like the movie on A & E, which I loved. I'm just at the beginning of Part Two, so it was an easy place to stop, and I haven't picked it back up since early June
Other books I want to read this summer:
The Host: (pronounced with a short o if you're katybug)- I've read it before and loved it, and it's been on my mind for some reason
Emma
Mansfield Park: the two Jane Austen novels I've yet to read to have read all her novels. Not completed all of her novels. See Sense and Sensibilty below.
As I Lay Dying. Faulkner. I read it in high school and had to dissect it for English class. Liked it then, so now I'd like to read it for pleasure. Yes, I read Faulkner for pleasure. I understand that makes me a dork.
Wuthering Heights: I love her sister's Jane Eyre, and everyone mentions this book. I bought it a while back, but I've heard it's depressing. It's at the bottom of the summer book list.
Then, there's another stack. This one sits beside my bed, on the other nightstand. This is the stack of books that I started and stopped halfway through for some reason and have little motivation to pick back up.
Sense and Sensibility- the Jane Austen book that is too much for me. I've even read it with the Spark's notes' summaries and it's still a bit much. I'll stick to the movie on that one.
A Great and Terrible Beauty: a teenager book that was recommended to me. Mediocre. Not a good enough book to keep me interested enough to continue it.
An Acceptable Time: It's the fifth book in the series that starts with my favorite book of all time. This one was only written recently. And I'm not really impressed. Sorry Madeline.
And, yes. I'm fighting the urge to buy a Kindle. Fighting it hard now that it's on sale.
