Notes from the trenches

Monday morning soundtrack: Ben Folds, Iron and Wine, and Jane's Addiction. An eclectic but pleasing mix.

I don't have the interwebs yet, but I feel like the blog has been a little too silent for a little too long, as my last couple of posts left me sounding like a woman on the edge. On the edge, people, on the edge. I am, however, going to bullet-point it, as I've got lots of little things to say.

- I went back to work today and I am happy. I thrive on the routine of the school day, and I've missed my little ones. I had a funny story from one of the little goblins, and today I made a random quote and he tagged it as an elf quote (correctly). Love my little guy.

- Today was also one of my favorite social studies lessons to teach because I use a movie clip from National Treasure 2, and my kids tend to think I am the bomb dot com when I'm done with the lesson. There's a surprising amount of drama and stupidity that goes with discovering America, and my kids love it.

- I cannot type on the computer without removing my watch, which is why I've lost my favorite watch. When I told The Mother, she said that I've had it about a year and that's about how much time it takes me to lose things. Thanks Mom.

- Speaking of The Mother, guess who tried to ambush me with a set up on New Year's Eve (are you kidding me?) Turns out he wasn't The One, but before I met him I was sure he would be just so my mother would have something to hold over my head for the rest of my natural life.

- I went to the doctor today and got the official weight for the start of the new year. One word: yikes. Now, that's not the word I used when the number came up on the screen, because that word is not appropriate for publication.

- When I sat down to post this I really thought I had more to say. Maybe not.

- Young Life takes the month of January off of any activities, and I am so thankful. I don't know if I could handle club tonight. I'm still going to go to a multitude of high school basketball games to watch my girls play, but I won't be out late.

- Since I spent the entire winter break staying up until midnight and rolling out of bed around nine (or later), I put myself to bed at 8pm and was asleep by 8:21 last night. Best.decision.ever.

- I am almost finished with my December Daily. I changed the last page to be a New Year's Eve page, and so I have to print a few pictures to finish it off, but it has been so nice not having to take pictures all the time everywhere I go. It's pretty spiffy, though. I like it.

- Finally, I got the Kindle for Christmas. I love it. I've read one whole book, pages of several books, and played a whole lot of scrabble. I get this email about free books to download (thanks JMom!) and so I check out different books. Right now it has 15 books on it. I've only paid for three of them. Most of the books I love are old literature and they are free downloads. I almost downloaded a Nicholas Sparks book, but I stopped myself just in the nick of time. I will not get sucked into that chick lit melodramatic genre. Except for the one I already downloaded and read from that genre first. Keepin' it realz.

- That's enough bullet-points for now. I think the interwebs come on the fifth! Can't wait!
