Spiders and Questions

First, the question.
Lest you think that Thing 2 is not nearly as, shall we say, wacky as Thing 1, Thing 2 asks me today:

"Miss O, are you still in college?"
"No, baby. I'm not in college."

Now, for the spider issue. I hate spiders. HATE them. They freak me out. So this morning, as I am sitting at my computer, contemplating my stuffy nose and sore throat, I see a spider out of the corner of my eye. Not just a spider crawling on my desk, a spider coming down from the ceiling in attack. So, I did what every other normal, spider-fearing teacher would do: Freak out.

Luckily for me, my resident hero, Mrs. J came to the rescue, laughing all the while as she did not know about my arachnaphobia, and got rid of the spider.

Whew...that was a close one.

Of course, after Thing 1 found out that I'd had a run in with an eight-legged creature, he was all wound up. He later "felt something" in his shoe, and became "nervous that it was a black widow". The quotations are there because that's what he actually told me.

So, off we go. Can I tell you how much I love explaining to my coworker that my student here thinks that a black widow has gotten into his shoe and bitten him, and can she please check out his foot?

Again I ask..."how did I get here?"
